Getting Fit With One Piece Of Equipment: Kitchen Towels!

For the beginning of 2015, I will have a series about getting fit.  Each post will be all about getting fit using one piece of equipment.  I realize not everyone can afford a gym membership, not everyone enjoys going to the gym, and not everyone can put in the money that home gyms can cost.  I will review several different pieces of equipment and  I will show exercises for each piece.  Some equipment will be things that can be bought, and some will be things around your home-that cost nothing!

This week we will discuss a piece of equipment you should all have in your house or apartment-!

You’ll need to be on a smooth surface such as tile or hardwood floor and you will need two towels.

Here are some exercises that will work your whole body using kitchen towels!

1. Hip Adduction:  Kneel on the ground with each knee on one towel.  Push your knees apart as far as you can, take a breath, and pull them back together.

2.  Reverse Lunges:  Stand with each foot on a towel.  Slide one foot backwards, making sure the front knee doesn’t go over your front toes.  Bring the foot back and switch feet. Continue alternating for 20 reps.  You can also add your arms to this move by reaching out from your chest or over your head each time you lunge back.

3.  Abs and Shoulders:  Get down in the plank position and have a towel under each hand.  While maintaining the plank position, move one hand and towel forward at a time.  Continue alternating hands 20 times.

4.  Mountain Climbers:  Get down in the plank position and have one towel under each foot.  Bring one foot with towel in to your stomach then return it back.  Repeat with other leg.  Complete 20 reps.  This move will work shoulders, back, legs, and abs!

5.  Standing Towel Pull-Up:  Grab the towel and pull it tight over your head. Lower the towel to your chest and repeat 30 seconds.  Seems easy but if you’re holding the towel tight enough, it will start to burn!

If you aren’t comfortable using kitchen towels, you can invest in the  for under $20!
