Cat In The Hat Costume-Review

As many of you know, last month was a birthday celebration for Dr. Seuss.  As a fan of children books, how could I not love Dr. Seuss books?  So imagine how happy I was to get the chance to review a Cat in the Hat costume from Costume Discounters!

I could not be more pleased with .  Not only was our costume and accessories affordable, they shipped and arrived in record time!  The costume looks and fits great, but also feel awesome too!  No scratchy, cheap costumes here!  My very picky son (pictured above) had no problem slipping in and out of it and said it was very comfortable!

I loved the costume so much I just had to contact my photographer friend, because I know how much she enjoys anything having to do with Cat in the Hat.  She had a great idea to do a photo shoot featuring the costume and base it off movie!  As you can see, the pictures turned out amazing ( they always do when Angela is involved)! Another friend of mine and crafted an amazing look-a-like of the dress from the movie.  I mean, seriously, how cute are these kids?  Isn’t the Cat in the Hat Costume perfect?

Lil’ Kickers Soccer For Kids-My Thoughts

When the boys were both younger (around 18 months) they both took Sports Skills classes at the Virginia Beach Field House.  They both really enjoyed it and I loved how they were introduced to important sports skills.  Last week I was able to check out their new program for kids- -and I was very impressed!

When Zack and I first walked up I noticed a big change-the jerseys!  Each child who registers for classes get jerseys to wear to class-real jerseys that look great!  You can see how nice they are in the handsome model below.

Zack was not ready to participate in the beginning of class but the instructor really tried to engage him, eventually pulling him into the fun with my help.  His age group (the Cottontails) allows for parents to be in the class to help with the child’s confidence.  The Lil’ Kickers program not only focuses on activities that build athletic ability, they also focus on important social skills like listening and following directions.  I really loved how organized each developmental “game” was and the kids didn’t even realize what important skills they were learning because they were having so much fun!  The last game was everyone’s favorite-the whole class sat in a soccer net that was their “space ship”.  The instructor threw out a bunch of cones (space rocks) and the kids had to run around and tip the cones so they were sitting upright-with one foot.  Then they were able to knock over the cones-both of the games were perfect foundations for passing and shooting a soccer ball!  And really every game and activity during the class easily led to soccer skills that can be used in higher age and ability levels!

We attended a Wednesday morning class but there are a  In fact, your first class is always free!  I think that is an awesome feature to this program since you never really know if your child will enjoy a new extracurricular activity.  Each class is 50 minutes long and include water breaks.   Depending on your child’s age, the coach/child ratio is around 12;1 but the class I attended was only 5:1.  Obviously the weekend classes would be a bit more full.

Easy After School Snack: Frigo Cheese Heads String Cheese!

Most parents I have talked to say their child is STARVING when they get home from school and mine are no different.  By the way they act, you would think they haven’t been fed in weeks!

There’s always the tricky decision about what to give for an after school snack that won’t ruin dinner (or in my case lunch) but that will also satisfy them.. Enter Frigo® Cheese Heads® String Cheese products.  They make the perfect snack for little ones because they aren’t messy, they are high in calcium and a good source of protein.  I love that they are already individually wrapped and ready to go at anytime!

Something you may not know (and certainly not anything I had ever thought of, was that you can use Frigo Cheese Heads String Cheese products in meal recipes!  Frigo’s website has a huge variety of meal ideas such as , nachos in no time, and my favorite  The boys love anything on a skewer so this was a big hit at my house!  I am throwing a big 40th birthday party next month and one thing on the menu I am planning on using the string cheese products for is  Who doesn’t love some fruit and cheese?!  My husband is actually a giant fan of string cheese and eats at least 2 a day!

This is as soon as we added the cheese but it melted beautifully and was delicious!

Right On The Walls: Wall Decals Review & $25 Giveaway!!!

As most of you know, we have been in moving chaos.  After finally moving in, the first rooms I HAD to get “done” were the boys’ bedrooms and the playroom.  After they were mainly unpacked, the decision was “What would go on the wall?!”  I immediately thought of . The family owned business carries a wide variety of original Vinyl art, color prints,car decals, and you can even custom order you own designs!  I had ordered from Right on the Walls for Zack’s nursery 2 years ago and knew I could count on the high quality and easy to use decals!  After spending a lot to time on their site (there is just so many cool things to check out) I found the perfect quote for the boys’ playroom!

For placement of the decal I chose a wall that needed a paint job (notice the chips) but one that I thought the decal would look nice on-I was right.  I absolutely love it!

Here is a picture of me figuring out placement of the decal.  Notice the tape in the middle of the paper.  If you choose a bigger decal like I did, the instructions state to do this method to ensure proper installation.

It Works “Skinny Wraps”: My Thoughts

You would pretty much have to live under a rock to not have heard about the “skinny wraps” that are the latest craze in losing inches on your body!  I had been hearing about them constantly but had never tried them-until last week.  In case you don’t know what a “skinny wrap”, let me give you the quick down low:

When let me know she was using and distributing them, I decided it was time to go ahead and try one.  I already knew exactly what body part I would be wrapping (my ever troublesome mid section) so I was excited to see what would happen.  I have heard some pretty amazing results of using these wraps so I really wanted to see what they hype was about.  I’m a huge fan of eating healthy and working out so I almost wanted to prove the stories wrong.  Well, a funny thing happened….

When Kristen gave me the wraps and directions I immediately asked her if the results were long lasting or went away after a few days.  Her answer was that it all depends on the person and how they take care of themselves afterwards (meaning continue to drink lots of water, eat relatively healthy, and continue any exercise plan they are on).  That answer seemed completely reasonable to me.  I mean, who goes to the gym and works out, then eats like crap, and expects to lose weight or inches?  The same principles apply to It Works!

I took the wrap and directions home and followed all the pre-instructions…no alcohol and lots of water 24 hours before.  That was simple enough since I drink tons of water to begin with.  Then I did my pre-measurements on the 3 areas of my stomach and got to wrapping.  This all was much easier because I had my husband’s help with the measuring tape and wrap.  Finally, I just went about my business and waited for the wrap to do it’s job.

After about 2.5 hours ( you can leave the wrap on for much longer but I was sleepy and didn’t want to sleep in it -even though you can).  I took off the wrap, rubbed in the remaining product left behind and measured.  I was disappointed to see I had gained some inches-but after checking the directions, I found that this was normal and actually was a positive thing.  So off to bed I went.

I continued measuring during the next 72 hours (and drinking LOTS of water like the directions say) and was pleased that with each measurement came a little loss in inches.  Nothing major, but a loss nonetheless.  At the 72 hour mark, I had a total of 2.5 inches lost from my measured areas. I was pretty happy with that!  My skin did look a bit tighter and I felt great!  So can I say it worked?  For me, yes it did!

Review: Thumbs Up Wine Finder

Do you love wine but often area a bit overwhelmed by the thousands of choices that you can face while choosing one at the store?

If you have ever caught yourself blankly staring at the wine selection in store this new app, Thumbs Up Wine Finder is for you!

The Thumbs Up Wine Finder app is designed to help the average wine shopper find a great bottle of wine in a chain grocery or warehouse store. When you download the app, you can search to find the best wine for you, the best wines at the best prices (I love this feature) and watch videos of each wine being reviewed!  Searches can be basic – price, varietal, food pairings – or more advanced – geography, flavors, and palates.  This really is the coolest app for any type of wine drinker.

When asked to review the Thumbs Up Wine Finder app, I was quick to say yes.  I thought the concept was awesome!  Plus, it didn’t hurt that they sent me a bottle of wine.  Yes!  A bottle of wine that has been reviewed on the app.  I have never been a big red wine drinker so I was leary of the claim that the bottle of 2010 Bogle Vineyards Essential Red, Old Vine, Red Blend would be such an amazing wine for a nice price.  Boy was I wrong!  I actually LOVED this wine and plan on purchasing more of it!  The app I could not have agreed with the review more.  You can view it yourself .

If you’re a parent, you know how hard it can be to fit in some exercise.  In fact, for the past few months, my husband and I have been waking up at 5 am to fit some workout time in before the kids wake up.  That means we’re pretty exhausted!  If you’ve followed the site for a while, you also know I run with the boys a couple days a week-but the weather doesn’t always cooperate.  So what’s a mom to do?

I have to admit-I was very skeptical when I was first approached to review 10-minute trainer.  I mean really?  10 Minutes to get in shape?  But because I am a big fan of Beachbody workouts, I knew it had to be worth it.  I was right.  These short and sweet workouts can really help a busy mom like me either get in shape, or maintain a healthy level of fitness.

The program encourages you to “stack” the workouts so that you can do 3 a day, equaling a 30 minute length of time. I have found this method is my favorite. When I do 30 minutes with these videos, I DO feel it the next day.  But some days you do only have 10 minutes here and there to squeeze in some semblance of exercise.  While a “total body” 10 minute workout is included in the set, I have found that if I only have time for 1 a day, I like to really focus on one body part, and so I chose upper body, lower body, or abs.

Rubbermaid Reveal Mop Review and Giveaway!

As a mom to boys and a wife to one big “boy”, I feel like I am FOREVER cleaning my floors! I can’t seem to keep them clean for longer than a few hours.  So when Rubbermaid offered to send me a to review and giveaway, I jumped at the chance!

Before I give my thoughts, here are some facts about the mop:

My thoughts:
I was so excited to open the mop and use it to clean my floors.  It came already assembled which was a huge plus.  Filling it with my desired cleaning solution made me even more happy!  It was very easy to fill and get started with the cleaning.

The mop was very lightweight and did a nice job getting dirty spots off the floor (which is no small feat with my boys)!  There were some drawbacks I feel I have to let you know about.  The mop is quite large, making it a bit hard to maneuver into certain corners of my kitchen.  Another issue I had was when squirting the solution from the mop, it shot pretty far out and I “cleaned” my cabinets a few times.

Back to the positives-removing and cleaning the pad was amazingly simple and I was very impressed that they came out of the laundry  in perfect shape. I’ve had mops in the past with reusable pads and they normally don’t fare too well in the wash.  Bottom line-I would recommend this mop to someone who has a home without much carpet.  It can definitely get the job done; and because of it’s size, you can save time while cleaning!

I have said time and time again how much my boys LOVE Thomas the train-they play with him and his buddies every single day!

Recently I was able to review the DVD and as always, my boys were thrilled!  I really can’t go wrong giving them anything having to do with their favorite TV character!

Here’s a little about the movie:

Through mud, garbage, and muck, Thomas and his engine friends show that being Really Useful can be a dirty job! See James turn into the Really Muddy Engine and Thomas get showered with garbage. My take:

What can I say other than If it’s got Thomas in it, my kids LOVE it!  This DVD in particular has become a house favorite.  My sons love getting dirty and smelly almost as much as they love Thomas so a DVD all about smelling bad and that has Thomas in it is just a win win.  I of course love that as always, this movie shoes Thomas being a teammate and working together with his friends and also shows that choices have consequences so it’s important to make good choices!

To be completely honest, I’ve never been a big Barney fan, but this movie was great!  Both of my boys were glued to the screen to see Batnie and his friends make a rocketship  and fly it to the moon!  They have requested it as their “movie night” DVD several times since they viewed it for the first time!  I will warn you-the songs on the DVD will get stuck in your head!  This movie was a lot of fun to watch and has become one of my children’s favorites!

My Whole Foods Citrus Showdown–Did Clementines or Satsumas Win?

Chances are you’ve heard (and eaten) a Clementine.  But have you ever heard of Satsumas?  I certainly had not before this showdown!  They are what you may call “Clementine’s Unknown Cousin”. Both of these fruits belong to the mandarin family and have a lot of similarities, but there are a few distinct differences.

Both citrus fruits are seedless and easy to peel and very similar in appearance! In fact we had to be very careful keeping them separate so we wouldn’t mix them up!  While the Satsumas have a bold taste, the Clementines are know for being simply sweet and having a less acidic finish.  We made two separate recipes to compare these two fruits and invited over some of our friends for a holiday dinner to have a broader range of opinions!

In Corner #1:  Clementines.  To showcase this fruit we used the recipe

This recipe was very easy to make and everyone really enjoyed it. I was pleasantly surprised that the a couple of the kids enjoyed the green beans with this dressing! I love Clementines but felt like the dressing was a bit too strong.

In Corner #2:  Satsumas.  We created the recipe  for this showdown.

This recipe was definitely a crowd favorite and when compared to the green beans, this recipe won hands down.  We did not include the Aduki beans but it still turned out to have a lot of flavor.  If you want to try this recipe I suggest leaving the dressing on the side when serving.  We combined it with the spinach and I wasn’t able to enjoy it the next day.

And the winner is…….

Satsumas!  Everyone voted and the winner was the Satsuma dressing-hands down! This was a little shock for the “unknown” to be the winner!

This is the perfect time of the year for citrus fruits and I suggest if you have a Whole Foods store near you to head on down and do your own Citrus Showdown!  I’m anxious to see if you agree with our winner!

My Owner’s Box Review

My husband and I have been discussing redoing my son’s room since it is still in his “baby” theme.  We have been wracking our brains to come up with a theme that would grow with him and not need to be changed in another 4 years.  The obvious choice seemed to be to make it sports related.  Shortly after this decision I was lucky enough to find the company My Owner’s Box.

™ is a new company offering officially licensed Major League Baseball™ storage products that can de-clutter and organize any child’s bedroom, college dorm room, home or office space.  The company has been developing the new line of products for two years to perfect the storage functionality and quality of the embroidered team logos.

Finding this company has helped guide us in the design process of the room and also in the organization!  I am a bit nutty about having things organized and the 6 cube organizer really helped with this issue!  I also was sent the fabric storage drawers which are perfect for all of Will’s stuffed animals, trains, and cars!  Even better? They fit IN the cube organizer!  In addition we ordered the and I am super impressed with their stability and quality.  A whole train track can fit inside of one! We are using the other one for his favorite books and there are absolutely no issues with their ability to hold the weight of the books!

As you can see in the picture above, we chose the theme Boston Red Sox…but these items come with the logo of any of your favorite Major League Baseball teams-or you can just order plain fabric ones!  I love ours so much I am probably going to be ordering a few more….that is after I get done with the rest of the room!
